This tag is for questions where the answerer must identify a puzzle type based on deliberately limited information about its nature, such as notes made in the course of solving it. For questions where the asker genuinely needs to know the puzzle type, use the [puzzle-identification] tag instead.
In reverse puzzling, the question provides some reasoning, an answer or an analysis of a puzzle without revealing its name or nature, and the answerer's goal is to identify the original puzzle. The first post of this kind on Puzzling Stack Exchange was Reverse Puzzling, created by Dr Xorile.
Note that questions in this tag are generally challenge questions where the asker already knows the solution. If you're asking for identification of a puzzle whose name you genuinely don't know, then you should use the puzzle-identification tag instead.
