# What is a Trump Word™?

This is in the spirit of the What is a Word™/Phrase™ series started by JLee with a special brand of Phrase™ and Word™ puzzles.

If a word (or phrase) conforms to a special rule (and it's a fantastic rule, believe me!) I call it a Trump Word™. Use the examples below to find the rule.

$$\begin{array}{|c|c|}\hline \bbox[yellow]{\textbf{Trump Words™}} & \bbox[yellow]{\textbf{Not Trump Words™}}\\\hline \text{ALTERNATIVE} & \text{MAINSTREAM}\\\hline \text{BELIEVE ME} & \text{SKEPTICAL}\\\hline \text{CHRISTIANITY} & \text{ISLAM}\\\hline \text{CONSERVATIVE} & \text{LIBERAL}\\\hline \text{ECONOMY} & \text{SOCIALISM}\\\hline \text{FOSSIL FUEL} & \text{CLIMATE CHANGE}\\\hline \text{FOX NEWS} & \text{MSNBC}\\\hline \text{GORSUCH} & \text{GARLAND}\\\hline \text{HUGE} & \text{BIG}\\\hline \text{IVANKA} & \text{CHELSEA}\\\hline \text{LAW AND ORDER} & \text{PROTESTS}\\\hline \text{MANUFACTURING} & \text{CHINA}\\\hline \text{MILITARY} & \text{PACIFISM}\\\hline \text{REPUBLICAN} & \text{DEMOCRAT}\\\hline \text{RUSSIAN} & \text{ARAB}\\\hline \text{TEXAS} & \text{CALIFORNIA}\\\hline \text{TRUMP} & \text{CLINTON}\\\hline \text{TWITTER} & \text{FACEBOOK}\\\hline \text{TWO} & \text{SECOND}\\\hline \text{USA} & \text{GLOBAL}\\\hline \text{WALL} & \text{OPEN BORDER}\\\hline \text{WEALTHY} & \text{POOR}\\\hline \text{WINNER} & \text{LOSER}\\\hline \text{WISCONSIN} & \text{MINNESOTA}\\\hline \text{XENOPHOBIA} & \text{IMMIGRATION}\\\hline \text{ZIONISM} & \text{PALESTINE}\\\hline \end{array}$$

As usual, the rule has nothing to do with the meaning of the words, only their orthography.

• Trump words are the best. They are fantastic words, just the best. It's true. – Xenocacia Feb 7 '17 at 8:48

A Trump Word™ ...

... has at least one of the letters U, V, W, X, Y or Z in it. None of the Not Trump Words™ have any of these letters in them.

They are called Trump Words™, ...

... because the included letters are the "high" letters at the end of the alphabet that trump the lower letters? Or maybe the highest-scoring letter where the score is the position of the letter in the alphabet scores more than 20 and hence is a trump? Not sure.

(I tried to find a card game where trumps score more than 20 points, because U is the 21st letter in the alphabet, but I couldn't find anything useful.)

• Notice all the T's are a bit wonky in the table. I think the letters after T are perhaps the T-rump of the alphabet. – Neil W Feb 7 '17 at 11:04
• The wonky Ts are a perennial feature, nothing specific to this puzzle. – Gareth McCaughan Feb 7 '17 at 13:24
• (But I like the T-rump idea, regardless.) – Gareth McCaughan Feb 7 '17 at 13:24
