Feb 8, 2017 at 15:30 | comment | added | Ian MacDonald | I expected nothing less. I wouldn't want your puzzle to be ruined, I just wanted to throw in my "gut feeling" two cents. :)
Feb 8, 2017 at 15:15 | comment | added | Martin Rattigan | @Ian MacDonald - I won't say if I think your guess is correct or not because that would possibly spoil the puzzle somewhat.
Feb 8, 2017 at 14:38 | comment | added | Martin Rattigan | @Ian MacDonald - Ah. But note the question asks for the smallest number of tiles, so any example of an acceptable tiling would not be a complete answer without a valid argument that it is impossible with fewer tiles.
Feb 8, 2017 at 14:23 | comment | added | Ian MacDonald | If I could show you an example, I would've answered the question instead of making a comment. ;)

Feb 8, 2017 at 12:16 | comment | added | Martin Rattigan | Please note that I have corrected the definition of polygonal tile in the small print. The original would have allowed polygonal shapes with disconnected interiors (e.g. a "bow tie of two triangles connected at a single vertex) to count as a single tile, which was not the intention. My apologies to anyone who may have been relying on that.

Corrected definition of polygonal tile in "small print". My apologies to anyone working with the original

The tiles are not identical.
